What do we have here?
A unique Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 6005ST, featuring the more rare “jumbo” 32x41mm rectangular stainless steel case fitted to a stainless steel AP integrated bracelet. The grey "Petite Tapisserie" dial is complemented nicely by applied hour markers and an applied AP logo at 12 o’clock.
This reference was released in the late 1970s during the height of the quartz crisis, hence the ultra thin calibre 2511 quartz movement. Not only is the design aesthetic of this watch unique, the movement has its own quirks as well. The turning of the crown only impacts the hour hand whereas the minute hand has to be set via a pusher in the middle of the crown. Interestingly, this watch was released during an era where we saw funky iterations of well-known integrated steel sports watches from the “Holy Trinity” - the Patek Nautellipse, the Vacheron square 222 and this Rectangular Royal Oak. Although this reference shares the same bracelet style, tapisserie dial and the Royal Oak name, it was not designed by Gerald Genta; making this a unique standout from all other Royal Oaks.
This Royal Oak is in excellent vintage condition with minimal wear throughout. It is not accompanied by a box or papers. Contact us for more info, photos, or to make this watch yours!
(Professional refinishing available at the buyer's request - cost will be added to the sale price)
